Amazon Prime Video is set to follow Netflix's footsteps by implementing password-sharing restrictions in India starting January 2025. This change aims to streamline device usage and bring a more structured approach to accessing content on the platform.
Currently, Prime members can log in to up to 10 devices without specific sub-limits. However, the new policy will allow users to log in to a maximum of five devices, including up to two TVs, per membership. Subscribers received emails notifying them of these changes, which emphasize that each household is entitled to access Prime Video on the allotted five devices.
To manage device access or expand usage beyond the five-device limit, customers can either remove a registered device or purchase an additional membership.
In a bid to maintain its competitive edge, Amazon highlighted that Prime Video will feature fewer ads compared to linear television and other streaming services. Additionally, the company has plans to introduce an ad-free Prime tier in India soon, offering users more options to enhance their viewing experience.
